You will be reminded of a charming American Plan resort - planned especially for this clientele; yet The Mansion costs less than most nursing homes. The philosophy at The Mansion is to provide residents a safe, secure, dignified and loving environment. It is the way it is because Dede Beam, Owner - Administrator, looking for a place for her mother and not finding what she hoped to see, then built what she had envisioned. (Sadly, her mother died before The Mansion was completed.) Ten years before The Mansion was completed, Dede joined numerous groups dealing with senior issues, namely, Family Services, Ombudsman’s Program, Senior Network Services, American Cancer Society, Dominican Hospital Auxiliary in Pastoral Care. She is a past Board Member of the local Alzheimer’s Association and served on a State Task Force for Special Care Units.

A New phrase is being used more and more frequently: “Behavior of the Alzheimer’s Type”, which means short-term memory loss, agitation, wandering, and other strange behaviors. A few years ago, it was illegal for a place like The Mansion to have a locked gate. It was a resident’s right to walk away, despite the obvious danger to himself, if he happened to be demented. The Mansion was selected in 1990 as one of six facilities statewide, both locked and unlocked, in which Alzheimer’s people came under intensive observation. Now standards are set under which “Special Care Units” are permitted to serve this group behind fences and locked gates, under certain specified conditions. The Mansion is one of these special places.

In the progress of the disease, a time comes when home care is no longer a practical solution – two lives, instead of just one, are being affected. This is the time when Residential care must be looked at, and the time when a call to tour The Mansion could be made. These factors can make your choice a win-win solution for the family as well as the demented person:

  • Our secure three acres where residents wander freely
  • Our activities and entertainment program draw residents into participation, sharing and socializing
  • Our devoted and experienced staff, accustomed to dealing with dementia
